A Strong Start To The British F4 Championship At Donington Park
With the first round of the season now complete, here’s your recap of all of the action from Donington Park as the British F4 Championship officially gets underway.
After months of preparation and following a successful F4 UAE campaign, it was finally time to launch our British F4 Championship bid at the season opener at Donington Park.
After a day of testing in mixed conditions on Thursday, the team and Reza were in high spirits, as he was able to consistently demonstrate his abilities by achieving a Top 5 finish in each of the days practice sessions, setting us up well for qualifying the next day, where Reza secured P6 for the start of race one.
Race One
After several months of preparation and hard graft, the lights finally went out on the first race of the season, with Reza making up a number of places in the opening laps - reaching 3rd as the racing intensified.
Unfortunately due to a small mistake, he dropped down to P7 before climbing back up to 5th before the chequered flag was waved, marking a promising start to the weekend.
Race Two
Unfortunately due to the torrential rain, the race schedule for races two and three were delayed, as officials weighed up the risks and determined that only Race Two could go ahead, several hours later than originally planned.
As the skies started to clear, and the track dried out a little, the cars lined up on the grid with Reza starting P7. Shortly after racing got underway he made up a number of places, but following a brief period behind the safety car, he took some contact which caused damage to the cars steering, and also the cooling elements of the car. Owing to damage on the car, he dropped to P20, but he valiantly fought his way back up the order, finishing in P13 as the race drew to a close.
As we missed out on the opportunity to hold the third and final race of the weekend, the decision has been made to attach that race to a weekend later in the season, so that all teams and drivers can compete for the available points.
